Three core rules
The short version
Hot room: no
Dogs do not enter a heated sauna. Temperatures of 70 °C and above cause heat stroke within minutes. There is no breed exception to this rule.
Cool side room: usually fine
A changing room, terrace, or porch under 25 °C with water available works for most dogs while humans are in the sauna. The dog must be free to walk away.
After sauna: cool down, leash up
Humans cooling off in the lake or yard often invite the dog along. Watch for muddy paws back inside, ticks at the mökki, and slippery floors after wet feet.
Heat stroke is an emergency
If the dog gets overheated by accident, move to shade, wet paws and belly with cool water (not ice), and call a vet. Do not ignore heavy panting that does not stop in five minutes.
