When should I book a holiday pet sitter in the Netherlands?
Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for summer holidays (mid-July to end of August), 6 to 8 weeks for Christmas and New Year. Meivakantie and herfstvakantie usually book within 2 to 3 weeks of demand.
House sitting or boarding for a long summer trip?
For trips longer than a week, most Dutch pet owners prefer house sitting (the sitter stays in your home). Cats especially benefit from staying in their own territory. Dogs that are routine-sensitive also do better at home.
How much does a holiday pet sitter cost?
House sitting runs 30 to 55 euro per night. Boarding (your pet stays at the sitter's home) runs 25 to 50 euro per night. Drop-in visits for cats run 12 to 22 euro per visit. Amsterdam and Utrecht sit at the upper end.
Can I book the same sitter every year?
Yes. Many Petme owners have a regular holiday sitter that returns each summer or Christmas. Build that relationship by booking a meet-and-greet plus one short stay before your first long trip.
What if I need to extend the trip last minute?
Most sitters can extend a stay if you message them in the app. Same-day extensions are usually doable. Multi-day extensions during peak holiday weeks depend on sitter availability.
What about Christmas-specific care?
Christmas peak runs roughly 20 December to 6 January. Many full-time sitters reserve this window for longer-stay clients. Book by mid-October for best availability.
