Columbus rates per day and per night
Every sitter sets their own rate, so these are bands rather than a price list. The real number is on each profile, so there are no surprises at checkout.
| Service | Columbus rate | Unit | A day of it costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boarding (dog stays at the sitter's home) | $38 - $68 | per night | $38 - $68 including the overnight |
| House sitting (sitter stays at yours) | $50 - $100 | per night, national band | $50 - $100 including the overnight |
| Dog walking | $18 - $28 | per hour | $18 - $28 for one walk |
| Drop-in visit | $15 - $25 | per visit, national band | $30 - $50 for two visits |
"Per day" means something different for each service. A boarding night is a whole day of care for a single price. A daytime plan is built from visits and walks: two drop-ins cost $30 to $50, a little more than one hour-long walk. The national dog sitting cost guide explains how to choose between them, and the true cost of pet sitting in Columbus page has the full ledger.
Boarding rates by neighborhood
| Area | Boarding per night | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Short North | $50 - $68 | Condo and townhome sitters, high demand |
| German Village | $48 - $66 | Historic brick homes, walkable streets |
| Victorian Village and Italian Village | $45 - $64 | Near Goodale Park |
| Clintonville | $42 - $62 | Homes with yards, near Whetstone Park |
| Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington | $42 - $62 | Established homes, fenced yards |
| Bexley | $42 - $60 | Yards that suit large dogs |
| Dublin and Worthington | $38 - $58 | Suburban homes, the lowest rates |
The central neighborhoods cost more because demand is high and yards are scarce. A big dog that needs room is often better matched, and cheaper, with a Clintonville, Bexley or Upper Arlington sitter who has a fenced yard.
Two Columbus budgets
The first is a fall home-game weekend. If you are going to the game, hosting a crowd or leaving town to avoid it, your dog boards Friday to Sunday, two nights. The second is a snowy workweek, when your dog needs an hour-long walk each weekday. The mid-range figures use $53 a night, the Columbus median in Petme's own rate example for Clintonville.
| Budget | Sitter total | Typical platform fee, 11% to 15% | Total on a typical platform | Total on Petme |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Game weekend, 2 nights at $38 - $68 | $76 - $136 | $8.36 - $20.40 | $84.36 - $156.40 | $76 - $136 |
| Game weekend, 2 nights at $53 | $106 | $11.66 - $15.90 | $117.66 - $121.90 | $106 |
| Snow week, 5 hour-long walks at $18 - $28 | $90 - $140 | $9.90 - $21.00 | $99.90 - $161.00 | $90 - $140 |
On Petme the owner booking fee is 0%, so the sitter's total is the whole bill, and Petme credits cashback after a completed booking. Over a fall of several home games, plus a few snow weeks, that fee difference adds up to real money.
What makes Columbus sitters busy
Game weekends come first. Ohio Stadium draws more than 100,000 fans on a home Saturday, and the weeks from student move-in in August through November lift short-notice demand for sitters, especially near campus. If your dog boards over a home game, book when the schedule comes out, not the week of the game.
Winter changes the walk. Snow and salted sidewalks in January and February mean shorter walks, paw wiping and cold-weather gear, and a good walker will ask whether your dog wears boots. If your dog hates the cold, two shorter visits can work better than one long walk.
Paperwork matters every January. Franklin County requires all dogs three months of age and older to be licensed every year by January 31, and a new dog to be licensed right away, according to the county's Ohio dog laws page. A sitter taking your dog out in public may need to show the tag, so check it is current before a booking.
The holidays are the tightest weeks. Thanksgiving and the stretch from Christmas to New Year fill first, with many owners away a week or more in the cold. Summer vacation is the other busy window. Sitters book out early, so the main cost of leaving it late is a thinner choice. The holiday pet sitting guide has booking lead times for the busy weeks.
Boarding or a sitter at home
Boarding at $38 to $68 a night is the better value for a social dog on a short trip. A house sitter at $50 to $100 keeps the routine for anxious or older dogs, and nobody has to drive the dog across town in snow. Compare dog boarding in Columbus with house sitting in Columbus.
