Small-scale sitting can be reported as self-employment without provincial business registration. Registration is usually only needed once you operate under a business name or exceed local thresholds.

Do I have to register for HST/GST?

Yes, if you exceed CAD 30,000 in pet sitting revenue over four consecutive calendar quarters. Below that threshold, registration is voluntary.

Can I sit in addition to a day job?

Yes. Many Petme sitters fit walks and drop-ins around a day job; boarding works for evenings, weekends, and vacation periods.

How much of each booking do I keep?

Up to 90% of every booking. Petme charges pet owners 0% and keeps a small platform commission on the sitter side. You set your own rate.

Do I have to be at the home the whole time?

Most sitters stay overnight and the majority of the day, with a few short outings as agreed with the owner. Confirm the rhythm at the meet and greet.

What about meals and groceries?

Each sitter and owner agrees their own arrangement. Some owners stock the fridge, others reimburse a grocery budget. Discuss at the meet and greet.
