Frequently asked
Questions from Mellieħa village core owners
Where do village-core dogs walk?
The walk down to the bay and back is the daily classic, with the option of looping through the Santa Marija Estate or up to the Marfa Ridge for longer walks.
Are there managed colonies in the village core?
Yes, a few small colonies around the church and the surrounding gardens. Local volunteers feed daily and several Petme sitters are part of the colony network.
Is the village core noisy during the festa?
Yes, very. Santa Marija (15 August) brings sustained fireworks and crowds. Anxious-pet owners often book house sitting for the festa week so the sitter can stay in-home during display nights.
How do sitters handle the summer heat in Mellieħa village core?
By moving the day around it. Walks go early in the morning and again after sunset, pavements get checked with a hand before a dog is taken out on them, and the middle of the day is for shade, water and quiet indoors. Agree the timings with your Mellieħa sitter when you book, and say so if your dog is a flat-faced breed or an older one that struggles in the heat.
What do I need to have in order before booking in Mellieħa village core?
Your dog should be microchipped and on the national register, which is required in Malta under the Electronic Identification of Dogs Regulations. Beyond that, give your Mellieħa village core sitter the vet you use, the feeding routine, and a note of how your dog behaves with other dogs on a narrow street, which comes up more in Mellieħa than in most places.
What does Petme cover in Mellieħa village core?
Verified pet sitters offering boarding, in-home sitting, drop-in visits and dog walks across Mellieħa village core. The Protection Plan can contribute up to €20,000 toward eligible vet costs.
Is there a booking fee?
No. Petme charges 0% to pet owners. The rate on the sitter's profile is exactly what you pay at checkout.
