When does Christmas demand peak in New Zealand?
The window runs mid-December through late January. The first heavy week is the lead-up to Christmas Day, then the New Year window, then the back-to-work week in mid-January. Auckland and Queenstown spike the hardest; Wellington and Christchurch follow.
How early should I book a Christmas pet sitter?
Six weeks ahead is the safe window in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown. Smaller cities can usually be booked four weeks out. Last-minute slots open up two weeks before but choice is narrow.
What if my preferred sitter is booked out?
Message two or three sitters in chat at the same time. Petme has no penalty for messaging multiple sitters before you book. Pick the first one with the right fit and dates.
Is there a Christmas premium on rates?
Sitters set their own rates on Petme. Some apply a small premium for the 24-26 December window or New Year week; many do not. The rate is shown on the profile before you book.
What about cats over summer?
For most cats, drop-in visits at home work best over the holidays. Two visits per day (morning and afternoon) is the most common booking. Your cat stays in their territory and avoids the stress of moving.
