Nelson and Richmond run together as one town for anything practical, which includes finding someone to look after your dog. The built-up area carries on through Stoke without a gap, so a sitter based in Richmond is a short drive from Tāhunanui and a sitter in Atawhai can cover the city centre. When you search here, search the whole strip rather than one suburb.
The two ends of the strip suit different care. The city side, Toi Toi, The Wood and Maitai Valley, is closer-packed and older, which is where drop-in visits and dog walking get booked most. Richmond and Enner Glynn have the sections and the fencing that overnight boarding and daycare need.
Summer is the busy season and it is busier here than the population suggests. Nelson is the road-end for the Abel Tasman and a working port and orchard region, so the weeks from Christmas into February combine locals travelling with visitors arriving, and boarding books out first.
