FAQ
Pet sitting cost FAQ
Do I only find pet sitting in New Zealand here, or other services too?
Each sitter's card in New Zealand lists the services they have active, so you are not restricted to pet sitting. The rate shown is what you pay, with no platform commission on the owner side.
Is there a standard rate for pet sitting in New Zealand?
No standard rate is imposed. Sitters in New Zealand publish their own, and the figure on the card is what you are charged, with no owner-side commission added at checkout. Every completed booking also earns cashback.
How much does a pet sitter cost in New Zealand?
Overnight dog boarding in NZ typically costs NZ$45-100 per night. A 30-minute walk runs NZ$25-45. Doggy daycare lands at NZ$35-65 per day. Drop-in visits are NZ$25-40 per visit. House sitting (in your home) is NZ$60-110 per night. All prices are GST inclusive.
Why is pet sitting cheaper in Hamilton than Auckland?
Metro cities like Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown sit at the top of the range because of higher cost of living and stronger demand. Regional cities like Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, and Whangarei sit in the middle. Smaller towns sit at the lower end.
Are there extra fees on top of the sitter rate?
On Petme, no. Petme charges pet owners 0% in service fees. The price you see is the price you pay. Sitters set GST-inclusive rates, so there are no surprises at checkout.
What about cashback?
Petme credits cashback to your in-app balance on every completed booking. You can spend it on your next booking. No expiry, no minimum, no opt-in.
Does the price include the Protection Plan?
Yes. Every Petme booking includes up to NZ$39,000+ in vet expenses at any registered Kiwi vet clinic. No deductible. No upcharge.
How do Petme prices compare to Pawshake or kennels?
Sitter base rates on Petme tend to land in the same range as on other home-based platforms. The difference is the platform structure: Petme charges pet owners 0%, while other platforms commonly add an undisclosed service fee at checkout. Kennels are often cheaper per night but provide group housing rather than home-based care.
