Growing up in Belgium, I gained early experience caring for a variety of animals. I mainly looked after birds such as budgerigars, lovebirds, and ringneck parrots, and like many children, I also had a goldfish. My parents owned a German Shepherd, and several of my relatives had poodles, which meant I was surrounded by dogs from a young age and developed a natural understanding of their needs and behavior. After moving to the Bulgarian countryside, my involvement with animals deepened. I began caring for lost and abandoned dogs, providing them with shelter, attention, and daily care while actively searching for them a warm and permanent home. My property included a large, two-level garden, offering plenty of safe outdoor space for dogs to exercise, explore, and relax. Over time, I had the privilege of welcoming and caring for larger breeds such as a Husky, Sarplaninac (Šarplaninac / Sharr dog), and Central Asian Shepherd (Alabai). While many people feel hesitant around large or powerful breeds, I have always felt comfortable and confident caring for them. I believe that with patience, respect, and understanding, these dogs reveal their gentle nature and reward that trust with loyalty and unconditional affection.
