A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Biel/Bienne

Cat owners in Biel/Bienne book most heavily around school holidays and travel periods, when a daily drop-in keeps a cat fed and settled at home. Apartment-dense neighborhoods drive steady year-round demand.

When demand peaks

Cat-visit requests spike during summer holidays, Christmas, and ski-week breaks, when owners travel and need a daily check-in. Long weekends add shorter one or two-day bookings.

Know your Biel/Bienne areas

The Old Town, Madretsch, Champagne and Mett link together on a bike in a few minutes. Vingelz climbs, and Nidau and Port sit across the water, so name them separately rather than letting an owner assume you cover the whole lake shore.

Cat homes in Biel/Bienne

Biel/Bienne cat homes are mostly rented flats in Madretsch, Mett and around the Old Town, where cats stay in and the visit covers food, water and the tray. Toward Vingelz, Nidau and Port there are more houses and gardens, and the cats there let themselves out. Because the city is bilingual, the same street can hand you feeding notes in German at one door and in French at the next.

Bilingual owners book faster

Biel/Bienne is officially bilingual, sitting on the German-French language line. Sitters who speak both serve households from both communities.

Cat care in Biel/Bienne

Two languages, one round in Biel/Bienne

Biel/Bienne is the one Swiss city where you may genuinely need both languages in the same afternoon. A sitter can take a booking in German in Mett and the next one in French in Madretsch, and the switch is ordinary here rather than remarkable. The city is compact and mostly flat, which makes a bicycle round realistic across the Old Town, Madretsch and Champagne. Vingelz and the lakeside strip climb toward the foot of the Jura and take longer to reach. Industrial shift patterns mean a fair share of requests are for a fixed evening visit rather than a holiday stretch, and those are the bookings that repeat week after week.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Biel/Bienne

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Biel/Bienne.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Biel/Bienne?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Biel/Bienne run CHF 18 to CHF 35 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Biel/Bienne?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Old Town and Madretsch into one efficient round.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to CHF 20,000 for eligible vet costs for the cat in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether you sit in Old Town or Madretsch.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Biel/Bienne?
Petme cat bookings in Biel/Bienne come from neighborhoods like Old Town, Madretsch, Vingelz, with drop-in visits and overnight cat boarding the most requested. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Biel/Bienne owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
When is cat sitting demand highest in Biel/Bienne?
When owners travel: the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the ski and February sports weeks. On a Biel/Bienne winter visit that means checking the heating is still on, keeping the feeding and litter routine exactly as the owner left it, and flagging anything unusual the same day. Swiss school holidays are set canton by canton, so the busy weeks shift with where you work.
Do I need both German and French to cat sit in Biel/Bienne?
Not both, but each language you leave off costs you part of the city. Biel/Bienne is officially bilingual, so owners write in German or in French depending on the household, and the split runs through every quarter rather than along a boundary. Sitters who list both get requests from both communities.
Are there part-time jobs with animals in Biel?
Cat sitting is the version that works around shift hours, because a visit is short and can be fixed to the same time each day. The demand here comes from flats in Madretsch, Mett and the Old Town, where cats stay indoors while their owners work long days. You set your own rate per visit.
How often do Biel owners want a cat visited?
Once a day is the usual request for a healthy adult cat, with a second visit asked for when the animal is medicated, elderly or anxious alone. That is the owner’s call and it belongs in the booking. Agree it in the chat before you confirm, so the rate matches the work you are actually doing.
