A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Interlaken

Cat owners in Interlaken book most heavily around school holidays and travel periods, when a daily drop-in keeps a cat fed and settled at home. Apartment-dense neighborhoods drive steady year-round demand.

When demand peaks

Cat-visit requests spike during summer holidays, Christmas, and ski-week breaks, when owners travel and need a daily check-in. Long weekends add shorter one or two-day bookings.

Know your Interlaken areas

Interlaken West, Interlaken Ost, Unterseen, Matten and Wilderswil are one valley-floor area and easy to serve twice a day. Beatenberg, Habkern, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are not, so name them only if you will genuinely make the climb in January.

Cat homes in Interlaken

Cat homes here are mostly houses rather than blocks, in Unterseen, Matten, Boenigen and Wilderswil, with gardens and cats that go out in good weather and stay in once the snow comes. Winter changes the visit: the cat is indoors, the tray matters more, and the owner wants to know it is warm and eating. Second-home households in the valley add bookings that arrive with the season rather than with the school calendar.

Cat care in Interlaken

Two seasons, and the gap between them

The Interlaken region has two full tourist seasons and a quiet stretch either side, and cat work is shaped by both. In summer and through the winter weeks the valley fills with visitors and second-home owners, and requests are for stays of several days while people are up in the mountains. In the shoulder months the work comes from resident households in Unterseen, Matten and Wilderswil, who travel once the season lets them. Distance is the real constraint: Interlaken West to Wilderswil is short, but Beatenberg and Habkern climb, and Grindelwald means the train. Most sitters set a valley-floor area and price anything above it separately.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Interlaken

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Interlaken.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Interlaken?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Interlaken run CHF 25 to CHF 50 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Interlaken owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Interlaken?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost into one efficient round.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
Every confirmed Petme booking, including drop-in visits, includes CHF 20,000 in Protection Plan for the cat in your care, at no cost to you or the owner. The same cover applies whether you sit in Interlaken West or Interlaken Ost.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Interlaken?
Petme cat bookings in Interlaken come from neighborhoods like Interlaken West, Interlaken Ost, Unterseen, with drop-in visits and overnight cat boarding the most requested. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
When is cat sitting demand highest in Interlaken?
When owners travel: the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the ski and February sports weeks. On a Interlaken winter visit that means checking the heating is still on, keeping the feeding and litter routine exactly as the owner left it, and flagging anything unusual the same day. Swiss school holidays are set canton by canton, so the busy weeks shift with where you work.
Is cat sitting seasonal work in the Interlaken region?
Partly. The summer and winter visitor seasons bring the heaviest weeks, and the resident households in Unterseen, Matten and Wilderswil keep a steadier base through the shoulder months when they travel themselves. Sitters available across both patterns fill more of the year than those who only work the peaks.
How far will I travel between Interlaken cat visits?
On the valley floor, not far: Interlaken West, Unterseen, Matten and Wilderswil are minutes apart. Beatenberg and Habkern climb steeply and Grindelwald means the train, so most sitters set a core area and price the outlying villages as a separate journey. Say in your profile which villages you cover.
What language do owners in the Interlaken region write in?
German from the resident households, and English from visitors and second-home owners who come from abroad. That mix is unusual for a German-speaking region and worth using. Listing both opens the seasonal bookings as well as the local ones, which is most of the difference between a full year and a busy fortnight.
