Local know-how pays off in Hitchin

Hitchin gets rain in every season, frosty spells in winter and short days from November. On a cat round that means checking the heating and the windows, drying a cat that comes in wet, and fitting visits into daylight when the owner asks for it.

When owners travel

Cat visits peak over the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, with a second wave on the February, May and October half-terms and the bank-holiday weekends. Outside those dates, weekday visits cover work trips and weekends away.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Hitchin

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Hitchin.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Hitchin?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Hitchin run £11 to £17 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to £20,000 for eligible vet costs for the cat in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether you sit in Walsworth or Purwell.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Hitchin?
The east side, including Walsworth, Purwell and Highbury, is SG4, while the west side with Oughton and Westmill is SG5. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Hitchin owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Hitchin?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Walsworth and Purwell into one efficient round.
What should I check on a winter cat visit in Hitchin?
Check the home as well as the cat. On a Hitchin winter visit that means confirming the heating is still on, topping up water that sits near a draughty window, keeping the litter and feeding routine exactly as the owner left it, and sending the owner a short note if anything looks wrong.
Where in Hitchin can I offer cat visits?
Walsworth and Purwell are both fair game if you can reach them for every visit. Walsworth, Purwell and Highbury are SG4, and Oughton and Westmill are SG5. Owners look for someone nearby, so list those areas on your profile rather than just North Hertfordshire.
Can I cover Hitchin, Letchworth and Stevenage on one round?
Only for a few homes on the edges. Each town centre is roughly 5 to 7 km from Hitchin, and both have their own pages. A cat booked morning and evening needs a short trip, so build the Hitchin round first.
