Local know-how pays off in Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough has a wet maritime climate with rain spread across the year, frosty spells in winter, and short winter days that leave a narrow window of daylight. Walkers who carry a raincoat and a towel, plan sheltered routes on the wettest days, and hold their slots through the drizzle keep the regulars that fair-weather walkers lose.
When demand peaks
Demand peaks over the summer holidays and across Christmas and New Year, with a second wave on the February, May and October half-terms and the bank-holiday weekends. Boarding and house sitting lead when owners travel; walking, daycare and drop-in visits carry the commuting week.
Know your Middlesbrough areas
Most bookings cluster Linthorpe to Marton. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.
Breeds you will meet in Middlesbrough
Owners here mostly keep Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.
The home-based answer to Teesside kennel searching
People around Middlesbrough who want paid work with dogs mostly search for kennel jobs, and home boarding gives them the overnight role without the kennel block or the shift pattern. The suburbs make it workable: Acklam, Marton and Coulby Newham are largely semis and detached homes with gardens, and Nunthorpe sits on the edge of the North York Moors, so a host there can offer proper walks as part of the stay. Owners heading away for holidays or work generally prefer that to a run.
Looking for kennel jobs? This is home boarding instead
Petme does not hire kennel staff and has no kennel sites to work at. Boarding here means hosting dogs in your own home as a self-employed sitter.
Dogs stay in your home
You look after the dogs yourself, in your own home rather than a kennel block. You choose which bookings to accept and how many dogs you take at a time.
Self-employed, no rota

Check licensing first
In England, boarding other people’s dogs at your home as a business generally needs a council licence. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run their own schemes. Petme does not issue licences, so check with your local council before you take your first booking.
