FAQ

Dog boarding in East Lothian: common questions

Is home boarding in East Lothian cheaper than kennels?
Boarding sitters in East Lothian usually charge around £24 to £38 a night. Each sitter sets their own rate and you see it before you book, with a 0% booking fee on top. Kennel prices are set by each kennel, so compare the nightly rate, the walks and what is included.
Is home dog boarding in East Lothian an alternative to kennels?
Yes. With home dog boarding your dog stays in an East Lothian sitter's own home rather than a kennel run. Ask about walks, sleeping arrangements and other pets when you message the sitter, and agree the routine before the stay.
Can I find a boarding sitter near Musselburgh, East Lothian?
Yes. Search from Musselburgh to see the boarding sitters closest to that part of East Lothian, including nearby areas such as Tranent and Haddington. Message them to check they can reach your street before you book.
Do home dog boarders in East Lothian need a licence?
Yes. In Scotland, boarding other people's dogs as a business needs a council licence under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963, including boarding in a private home. In East Lothian that is East Lothian Council. Ask the boarder to show you their licence before you book.
When should I book dog boarding in East Lothian?
Book early for the school holidays in East Lothian, when many owners travel at once. In Scotland the summer break starts in late June. Sitters set their own calendars, so check dates with the boarding sitter when you message them.
How does cashback make my next booking cheaper?
Cashback is credited to your Petme balance once a stay is complete, capped at £20 per booking, and you can use it on a later booking. That is how each completed stay makes the next one cheaper. It is reversed if the booking is cancelled or refunded.
How are boarding sitters in East Lothian vetted?
Every boarding sitter on Petme passes ID and background checks before their profile goes live. You can read reviews from past bookings and message the sitter before you book, and the Protection Plan can contribute up to £20,000 toward eligible vet costs.
What does Petme add to the price?
Petme charges owners a 0% booking fee. You pay the price the boarding sitter sets with nothing added at checkout, and you earn cashback on every completed booking toward a later one.
