About dog walking in Canberra

Canberra owners book Petme around the parliamentary sitting calendar more than around the school calendar. Recurring weekday walks for office-based public servants are a steady chunk of bookings, and house-sits spike when MPs and staffers travel between Canberra and home electorates.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What if my dog is reactive?
Pick a walker offering solo walks. Mention reactivity, lead habits, and any triggers in your booking request. Walkers confirm before they accept.
Can I book recurring walks?
Yes. Recurring weekday lunchtime walks are the most common Petme booking. Owners who need all-day dog minding often pair the walks with a daycare day at the same sitter's place.
Is there a service fee for owners?
No. Petme charges pet owners 0% service fee. You only pay the walker's rate, and you earn automatic cashback on every completed walk.
How much does a dog walker cost in Canberra?
A 30-minute walk in Canberra costs A$28–A$45. 60-minute walks run A$38–A$60. Solo walks cost more than group walks, and weekend or evening slots may carry a small premium.
Are dog walkers in Canberra vetted?
Yes. Every walker passes identity and background checks, and the Protection Plan can contribute up to A$32,000 toward eligible vet costs.
Will I get photos after the walk?
Yes. After every walk the walker sends photos and a short note on how your dog went. The note mentions toilet breaks too.
How far ahead should I book in Canberra?
In Canberra you can usually find someone within a day or two, and there are normally several sitters close by to compare. School holidays and the Christmas to January stretch book out earliest, so lock those in further ahead.
What happens if it is too hot to walk?
Walkers in Canberra shift the time rather than push through it, usually to early morning or after sunset. Footpath temperature is the limit, not air temperature, and they will message you if a walk needs moving.
