Frequently asked questions
Cat sitter questions in Burnaby
Does a Burnaby winter change how a sitter visits Capitol Hill?
It changes what gets checked. Forced-air heating dries indoor air out over the winter, so water intake matters more and a sitter will top up and reposition bowls rather than just refill them. Ice storms and the outages that follow are the other winter risk, so agree in advance who to call if the heat goes out while you are away from Capitol Hill.
My cat hides from strangers in Capitol Hill. Is that a problem?
It is the most common reaction and it does not affect the visit. An experienced sitter in Capitol Hill will not force contact: food and litter get handled, the cat comes out on its own schedule, and most appear by the second or third visit. Until then the photos and the litter box tell you what you need to know, which is that your cat is eating and using it while you are out of Burnaby.
How much does a cat sitter cost in Burnaby?
Drop-in cat visits in Burnaby typically cost $22 to $30 CAD per visit. Metrotown and Brentwood sit at the higher end; the eastern neighbourhoods are a little lower. Overnight in-home sitting runs $50 to $75 CAD per night. Sitters set their own rate and you see the total before booking.
Can a sitter visit my Metrotown tower?
Yes. Many Burnaby sitters cover the condo towers around Metrotown, Brentwood, and Lougheed. Hand over a fob and key at the meet and greet, and note any concierge sign-in or elevator access in the booking so the sitter can reach your cat.
How do I keep a high-rise cat safe while I am away?
Lock balcony doors for the whole booking and tell the sitter to keep them shut. Burnaby sitters know high-rise safety: they check windows and screens, keep the cat off open balconies, and report anything that looks off.
My cat needs daily medication. Can the sitter manage?
Yes if the sitter is medication-experienced. Filter for medication experience and message a few sitters in chat. Pills, oral drops, and subcutaneous fluids for renal cats are routine. Show the dose and timing at the meet and greet.
I travel often through YVR. Can sitters handle short notice?
Yes. Most Burnaby sitters take short-notice bookings once you have done a meet and greet. Save two or three sitters as favourites and message them when travel is confirmed. Same-day bookings work outside peak periods.
Does Petme cover the rest of Metro Vancouver?
Yes. Petme covers Burnaby alongside Vancouver, New Westminster, and Coquitlam. Sitters near the boundary often cover cats on either side, so check each sitter's coverage map when you book.
My cat hides from strangers. Will the sitter find them?
Yes. Burnaby sitters are used to shy cats in condos and family homes. The sitter refills food and water, scoops the litter, looks for the cat without forcing contact, and reports what they saw. Most shy cats relax by the third or fourth visit.
Is the CAD 32,000 Protection Plan valid at BC clinics?
Yes. Every Petme booking in Burnaby includes up to CAD 32,000 in emergency Protection Plan at any licensed BC clinic during the sitter's care window. No deductible, no enrollment, no extra fee. Coverage runs from the first visit to the last.
