Frequently asked questions
Cat sitter questions in Calgary
My cat hides from strangers in Bow Valley. Is that a problem?
It is the most common reaction and it does not affect the visit. An experienced sitter in Bow Valley will not force contact: food and litter get handled, the cat comes out on its own schedule, and most appear by the second or third visit. Until then the photos and the litter box tell you what you need to know, which is that your cat is eating and using it while you are out of Calgary.
What happens if my cat gets sick during a booking in Bow Valley?
The sitter contacts you and takes the cat in, and every confirmed booking includes up to CAD 32,000 in vet costs at a licensed Canadian clinic. Leave your regular vet's details, and note the nearest after-hours clinic to Bow Valley, because that is the thing that saves time in an emergency. Rabies vaccination rules are set provincially, so keep your records current for Calgary rather than assuming one national rule.
How much does a cat sitter cost in Calgary?
Drop-in cat visits in Calgary typically cost $20 to $30 CAD per visit. The Beltline and Mission sit at the higher end; the deep south and northwest are a little lower. Overnight in-home sitting runs $50 to $80 CAD per night. Sitters set their own rates and you see the exact total before booking.
Calgary winters are brutal. Is a drop-in visit really enough?
Yes, for indoor cats it is the right service. The cat stays warm in its own home, never leaves the house, and the sitter handles food, water, litter, and play. Booking the cat into a kennel means a cold car transfer in minus-twenty weather, plus a stress shift for the cat. Drop-in visits avoid both.
Do Calgary cat sitters cover the deep south and the northwest?
Yes. Sitters set their own coverage areas. Many Calgary sitters cover their own quadrant; some cover the whole city. Use the Calgary filter and check each sitter's coverage map before booking. Auburn Bay, Tuscany, and Royal Oak are all well covered.
My cat is on thyroid medication twice daily. Can the sitter handle it?
Yes if the sitter is medication-experienced. Filter for 'medication experienced' and message a few sitters in chat. Show them the pill form (tablet, capsule, transdermal gel), the dose, and the timing. Most Calgary sitters who handle daily medication will ask for a brief demo at the meet and greet.
How do I keep the heating set right during a multi-day booking?
Leave the thermostat at your normal indoor temperature, usually 19 to 21 degrees C, for the duration of the booking. Do not let it drop below 18 in winter; cats can get uncomfortable and water pipes near outside walls can freeze. Ask the sitter to confirm the thermostat reading on the first visit.
Can I find a sitter for a Banff or Canmore weekend?
Most Calgary owners book the sitter to visit the Calgary home while the cat stays in familiar territory. A few sitters do travel to Banff or Canmore for in-home care; mention the location in your booking request. For most weekend trips, Calgary drop-in visits are easier and cheaper.
My cat is older and on a special diet. Will the sitter follow the routine?
Yes. Sitters follow your written feeding instructions exactly. Specify the brand, the portion in grams or cups, and the timing. Many Calgary owners feed senior or renal cats two or three small meals per day; the sitter can split a single visit into two short ones if needed, billed separately.
Is the CAD 32,000 Protection Plan automatic in Calgary?
Yes. The Protection Plan can contribute up to CAD 32,000 toward eligible vet costs at any licensed Alberta vet clinic during the sitter's care window. No deductible, no enrollment, no extra fee. Coverage runs from the first visit to the last visit.
