Frequently asked questions
Cat sitter questions in Kitchener
Does a Kitchener winter change how a sitter visits Huron Park?
It changes what gets checked. Forced-air heating dries indoor air out over the winter, so water intake matters more and a sitter will top up and reposition bowls rather than just refill them. Ice storms and the outages that follow are the other winter risk, so agree in advance who to call if the heat goes out while you are away from Huron Park.
How do I hand over keys in Huron Park?
Almost everyone books a short meet before the trip: you hand over keys, show where food, litter, and the carrier live, and introduce the cat. In Huron Park it is also when you explain the building access, from the lobby door to the buzzer. Keep the practical notes in the chat so they stay readable for the whole booking rather than living in one conversation you had in Kitchener weeks earlier.
How much does a cat sitter cost in Kitchener?
Drop-in cat visits in Kitchener typically cost $18 to $26 CAD per visit. Downtown, the Innovation District, and Stanley Park sit at the higher end; the southern suburbs are a little lower. Overnight in-home sitting runs $45 to $70 CAD per night. Sitters set their own rate and you see the total before booking.
I am a Waterloo grad student. Can I book a sitter from a Kitchener flat?
Yes. Petme sitters in Kitchener also cover the southern parts of Waterloo, and Waterloo sitters cover northern Kitchener. Use the Kitchener filter, check each sitter's coverage map, and the booking works the same way regardless of which side of the boundary you are on.
I travel for tech conferences. Can sitters handle short-notice bookings?
Yes. Most Kitchener sitters handle short-notice bookings if you have already done a meet and greet. Save two or three sitters as favourites and message them when travel is confirmed. Same-day bookings work outside peak periods.
My cat is on medication twice daily. Can the sitter manage?
Yes if the sitter is medication-experienced. Filter for 'medication experienced' and message a few sitters in chat. Pills, oral drops, ear drops, and subcutaneous fluids for renal cats are routine. Show the dose and timing at the meet and greet.
How do I handle keys for a downtown condo?
Hand the sitter a fob and key at the meet and greet. Mention any visitor registration requirements at the concierge desk and any garage or elevator access codes in the booking notes. Most Kitchener condos do not require advance registration for short sitter visits.
Can I book a sitter for a Niagara or Toronto weekend?
Most Kitchener owners book the sitter to visit the Kitchener home while the cat stays in familiar territory. Weekend drop-ins are easier and cheaper than transporting the cat. Book a few days ahead in peak periods.
My cat hides in the closet. Will the sitter find them?
Yes. Kitchener sitters are used to shy cats in tech-worker condos and family homes. The sitter refills food and water, scoops the litter, looks for the cat without forcing interaction, and reports what they observed. Most shy cats come out by the third or fourth visit.
Is the CAD 32,000 Protection Plan valid at Kitchener vet clinics?
Yes. The Protection Plan can contribute up to CAD 32,000 toward eligible vet costs at any licensed Ontario vet clinic during the sitter's care window. No deductible, no enrollment, no extra fee. Coverage runs from the first visit to the last visit.
