A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Galway

Galway has a mild, very wet, windy maritime climate that rarely freezes. Walkers who carry a raincoat and a towel, plan sheltered routes on the wettest days, and keep a steady schedule through the drizzle earn the repeat bookings that fair-weather walkers lose.

When demand peaks

Demand peaks over the summer holidays and the year-end break, plus the mid-term and bank-holiday weekends. Boarding and house sitting lead when owners travel; walking and drop-in visits carry the working week for commuters.

Know your Galway areas

Most bookings cluster Salthill to Renmore. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.

Breeds you will meet in Galway

Owners here mostly keep Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, Irish Setter, Kerry Blue Terrier. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.

Common questions

Dog Sitting Jobs in Galway

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Galway.

How much can I earn dog sitting in Galway?
Dog boarding on Petme in Galway runs €28 to €46 per night, with daycare and walks adding daytime income. You set your own rate per service, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What is the difference between dog boarding and doggy daycare?
Boarding is overnight, billed per night, while the owner travels. Daycare is daytime only, billed per day, for owners at work. You can offer either or both and set a separate rate for each.
Do I choose which dogs and bookings I accept in Galway?
Yes. You review each request, arrange a meet first if you want, and accept or decline. No assigned bookings and no minimum hours, whether the owner is in Salthill or Knocknacarra. You set your rates and availability per service.
What protection do I get on dog sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to €20,000 for eligible vet costs for the dog in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply across Salthill and Knocknacarra.
Can I board dogs in an apartment in Galway?
Yes. You set your own house rules: the dog sizes you accept, how many dogs at once, and whether your home suits high-energy breeds. Many Galway sitters board small and medium dogs from a flat near a park in Salthill or Knocknacarra.
What do owners in Galway mean by dog minding?
Usually an overnight stay rather than a walk. In Galway dog minding covers having the dog with you, or staying at theirs, while the owner is away, and it is the phrase Irish owners reach for more often than dog sitting. You set the nightly rate, agree the walk and feeding routine at the meet and greet, and take only the dates that suit you.
