I wouldn’t say that having a macaw parrot is all fun and cuddles and cute things you see on social media, there’s a lot of patience, bruises and bites, chewed up doors and wood trim, random holes in all your towels or sheets, and sometimes even your favorite blouse gets chewed up and shredded or zipped on your jeans gets ripped out (all happens very quickly too, just like with toddlers) it’s alot of dust, crumbs, feather dandruff and a voice so loud that it will push you to the edge and give you instant anxiety especially when you’re trying to do homework with kids or on the phone call regarding something important, or simply trying to sleep in or nap. But most of parrot owners don’t post that. Not because we don’t want to but because if we would no one want to see it and no one would want to watch messy dusty loud boring videos. Truth is having a parrot is very difficult and not for everyone. It’s a lifetime commitment and a complete lifestyle change to accommodate your decision. And only if you’re willing to put in the work and patience, you will have sweet moments like the one posted. In my eyes it’s worth everything, but again I waited 30 years for a macaw and knew that I wanted to adopt one and give him a second chance at a loving and patient home. Parrot might or might not be right for you and your family but if you decide that it’s worth it please always consider adopting. They all deserve happiness and Vandal is a proof that unconditional love and patience will transform them. Research, volunteer and adopt, don’t shop 🥹
