rachelDISCLAIMER: Not all dogs need to or should be off-leash to be fulfilled! 1️⃣ We taught an off-leash heel so we could pass people without getting in their space. Typically we also have a grab tab on Meeko’s harness or collar that we can grab while passing others as well, or we leash him up as we pass! 2️⃣ Sits and down stays are really handy on trails. Pulling off to the side while others pass (especially on a narrow trail) is just common courtesy and respectful! 3️⃣ This is the single most important skill (in my opinion) for letting your dog off-leash. His biggest challenge was recalling when seeing another dog or animal (deer, birds, squirrels, etc.) and I kept Meeko on a long line until he had 100% reliable recall off of distractions. I make sure to reward heavily each time when he does recall off of distractions and I also reward him when he checks in with me on his own! Comment down below any other skills that you use when your dog is off-leash ⬇️
