em_lovesdogsHow to Advocate for Your Dog When Guests Don’t Understand The hardest part of the holidays isn’t always the noise, the travel, or the routines changing. Sometimes it’s the people who don’t understand your dog — or why you parent them the way you do. So here’s your reminder before guests arrive tomorrow: You are allowed to advocate for your dog. And you don’t owe anyone an explanation. If your dog needs space, structure, or quiet… that’s not being “extra.” That’s being responsible. Here are a few simple scripts you can use: ✔️ “She warms up slowly. Please ignore her at first.” Calm, direct, and removes pressure from everyone. ✔️ “He’s resting — let’s give him his safe space.” Protects your dog before stress spikes. ✔️ “Please don’t reach for him. Let him choose if he wants to say hi.” Clear boundaries create safer interactions. ✔️ “We’re working on reactivity; thank you for giving him room.” Sets the tone without inviting debate. ✔️ “No table scraps, please — it affects his behavior and digestion.” Simple. Firm. Non-negotiable. People don’t have to understand your dog. But they do have to respect your boundaries. And if someone doesn’t like it? That’s a them problem — not a reflection of your dog or your parenting. 💛 You’re your dog’s safe place. You get to protect that.
