oregonmarineNational Park Week and Throwback Thursday in one! Oregon is home to one national park, and while we're biased, we think it's a great one! 🌋 . . Crater Lake was formed over 7,000 years ago during the eruption of Mount Mazama. This eruption wasn't like Mount St Helens that blew outward, Mt Mazama essentially collapsed on itself..the floating island in the lake, called Wizard Island, used to be the top of the volcano! Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US, and the 10th deepest in the world, at 1,949 feet. There are no inlets or outlets, so the lake is replenished through precipitation and snow melt, which gives it the prettiest blue color 💙 . . While the Rim Drive stays closed until June or July due to snow, the park has one entrance open for visitors to rent snow shoes and explore the woods and trails around the area! It is definitely worth a trip in the summer ☀️
