Choosing

Which one fits your pet

Dogs that settle well in a household, or that find kennel noise stressful, usually do well with a home boarder. Dogs that need space from other animals, or owners who want on-site staff around the clock, may prefer a hotel.

For cats the question is usually whether to move them at all. Most owners keep their cat at home and book one or two sitter visits a day. Boarding makes more sense for long trips or cats that need medication several times a day.

In an HDB flat, a home boarder can keep one dog of an approved small breed and up to two cats under AVS rules, so ask the sitter about their home and other pets before a long stay.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much is a pet hotel in Singapore per night?
For one dog, the published rate cards of four Singapore pet hotels run from S$52 to S$130 a night, depending on room size and the dog's size. Extras such as transport, meals and medication are usually charged on top.
How much does home dog boarding cost in Singapore?
Sitters who board dogs in their own home list S$35 to S$60 a night, and the middle of the range is about S$45. On Petme there is no owner fee on top of that rate.
Is home boarding or a pet hotel better for my dog?
Home boarding suits dogs that are calmer in a household with one sitter and a few other pets. A hotel suits owners who want staffed premises, set routines and add-ons on site. Meet the sitter or visit the hotel before a long stay.
How much is cat boarding in Singapore?
Published cat hotel rates run from S$38 to S$60 a night for one cat. Many owners keep their cat at home instead and book a sitter to visit, listed at S$20 to S$35 a day.
Should I board my cat or get a cat sitter?
Most cats cope better at home, so a sitter who visits once or twice a day is the common choice. Boarding suits cats that need someone around for longer or medication on a fixed schedule.
Do boarders in HDB flats have limits?
Yes. AVS rules allow one dog of an approved small breed and up to two cats in each HDB flat, and a sitter who boards pets at home has to stay within those limits. Ask about their home when you message them.
Does Petme cover vet costs during boarding?
The Protection Plan can contribute up to S$29,000 toward eligible vet costs during a Petme booking, whether your pet stays with a boarder or a sitter visits your home.
