A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Lugano

Cat owners in Lugano book most heavily around school holidays and travel periods, when a daily drop-in keeps a cat fed and settled at home. Apartment-dense neighborhoods drive steady year-round demand.

When demand peaks

Cat-visit requests spike during summer holidays, Christmas, and ski-week breaks, when owners travel and need a daily check-in. Long weekends add shorter one or two-day bookings.

Know your Lugano areas

The lakefront strip from Paradiso through Cassarate to Viganello is one walkable area and the easiest to serve well. Breganzona, Massagno, Porza and Vezia are up the hill, so put them on your profile only if the bus timetable actually works for a twice-daily visit.

Cat homes in Lugano

Lugano keeps most of its cats in flats, particularly along the lakefront and in Cassarate, Viganello and Molino Nuovo, where a balcony is the whole outdoors. Up the hill in Breganzona, Massagno and Porza there are houses with gardens and cats that come and go, so those visits are shorter. The international households in and around the centre travel often, which is why their bookings run long.

Bilingual owners book faster

Lugano is Italian-speaking with a sizeable expat base. Italian and English bilingual sitters attract both local and international owners.

Cat care in Lugano

Lugano cat work follows the lake and the hill

Lugano is built on a slope above the lake, and the difference between Paradiso at the water and Breganzona or Massagno up the hill is enough to decide how a round is planned. The dense flats along the lakefront and in Cassarate and Viganello are where the indoor cats are, and they sit close enough together to walk between. Anything above Molino Nuovo usually means a bus. The mild Ticino climate keeps fewer cats shut in year-round than further north, but it also means residents leave for longer in the summer, so an August booking here can run two or three weeks rather than a long weekend.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Lugano

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Lugano.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Lugano?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Lugano run CHF 18 to CHF 35 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Lugano?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Centro and Paradiso into one efficient round.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to CHF 20,000 for eligible vet costs for the cat in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether you sit in Centro or Paradiso.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Lugano?
Petme cat bookings in Lugano come from neighborhoods like Centro, Paradiso, Cassarate, with drop-in visits and overnight cat boarding the most requested. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Lugano owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
When is cat sitting demand highest in Lugano?
When owners travel: the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the ski and February sports weeks. On a Lugano winter visit that means checking the heating is still on, keeping the feeding and litter routine exactly as the owner left it, and flagging anything unusual the same day. Swiss school holidays are set canton by canton, so the busy weeks shift with where you work.
Which languages do Lugano cat owners write in?
Italian is the language of Lugano and most requests arrive in it. The city also has a long-standing international population, so English requests are common in the centre and along the lakefront. Listing Italian and English if you work in both reaches both groups instead of half the city.
When is cat sitting busiest in Lugano?
The summer, and August above all, when residents leave the city for weeks rather than days. Christmas and the ski weeks add a second peak. Between them the work is steadier than seasonal, because the flats in Cassarate and Viganello hold indoor cats whose owners travel for work through the year.
Is cat sitting a real way to earn in Ticino?
It is paid work you price yourself, per visit, and you keep up to 90% of each booking. In Lugano the volume comes from apartment households on the lakefront that need a daily visit while they travel. You decide which quarters you cover, which services you list and what each one costs.
