A local edge

Local know-how pays off in St. Gallen

Cat owners in St. Gallen book most heavily around school holidays and travel periods, when a daily drop-in keeps a cat fed and settled at home. Apartment-dense neighborhoods drive steady year-round demand.

When demand peaks

Cat-visit requests spike during summer holidays, Christmas, and ski-week breaks, when owners travel and need a daily check-in. Long weekends add shorter one or two-day bookings.

Know your St. Gallen areas

Check the contour lines before you claim an area. Rotmonten, the Altstadt and Heiligkreuz look close together and are not level, so most sitters pick the quarters one bus line serves and say exactly that on their profile.

Cat homes in St. Gallen

Student flats around Rotmonten and the Altstadt often hold one cat between several people, which means simple feeding instructions and a booking that ends when the term does. Family homes in Bruggen, Tablat and Winkeln usually have gardens and outdoor cats, so the visit is a feed and a check. Older academic households keep indoor cats in the quieter streets above the centre, where the visit is the animal’s only contact of the day.

The university term sets the St. Gallen year

Cat work in St. Gallen follows the university calendar more closely than the weather. Term ends and a whole layer of student flats in Rotmonten and around the Altstadt needs a cat covered for weeks, then the same flats go quiet. Academic households travel for conferences and sabbaticals, which produces the long bookings. Under that sits a steady local base in Bruggen, Tablat and Winkeln, mostly family homes where the cat goes out and the visit is short. The city is built on slopes, so a round that looks compact on a map can involve a serious climb, and sitters here plan around the bus lines rather than assume they can walk between quarters.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in St. Gallen

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in St. Gallen.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in St. Gallen?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in St. Gallen run CHF 18 to CHF 35 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to CHF 20,000 for eligible vet costs for the cat in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether you sit in Altstadt or St. Georgen.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in St. Gallen?
Petme cat bookings in St. Gallen come from neighborhoods like Altstadt, Rotmonten, Bruggen, with drop-in visits and overnight cat boarding the most requested. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many St. Gallen owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
Can I set my own visit schedule in St. Gallen?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Altstadt and St. Georgen into one efficient round.
When is cat sitting demand highest in St. Gallen?
When owners travel: the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the ski and February sports weeks. On a St. Gallen winter visit that means checking the heating is still on, keeping the feeding and litter routine exactly as the owner left it, and flagging anything unusual the same day. Swiss school holidays are set canton by canton, so the busy weeks shift with where you work.
Can I cat sit alongside studying in St. Gallen?
A visit takes about half an hour, so it fits between lectures rather than competing with them, which is why a lot of sitters here are students. You set your own availability and rate, and you take only the bookings you want. The longest ones land in the semester breaks, when the city empties.
Is there demand for cat sitters in St. Gallen outside term time?
Yes, from the local family households in Bruggen, Tablat and Winkeln, which travel on the school calendar rather than the university one. That base keeps the summer and the Christmas period busy even when the student flats are shut up. Sitters who cover both sides of the city see fewer quiet weeks.
What language do St. Gallen cat owners message in?
German, in almost every request. The university brings academics and exchange students who write in English, so listing English widens who can reach you. Swiss German is what you will hear at the handover even when the messages themselves are in standard German.
