A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Zurich

Cat owners in Zurich book most heavily around school holidays and travel periods, when a daily drop-in keeps a cat fed and settled at home. Apartment-dense neighborhoods drive steady year-round demand.

When demand peaks

Cat-visit requests spike during summer holidays, Christmas, and ski-week breaks, when owners travel and need a daily check-in. Long weekends add shorter one or two-day bookings.

Know your Zurich areas

List the Kreise you can actually reach in fifteen minutes rather than the whole city. A sitter who covers Wiedikon, Enge and Aussersihl properly gets more repeat work than one who claims all twelve districts and arrives late to half of them.

Cat homes in Zurich

Zurich cat households are mostly flat-based. In Kreis 4, Kreis 5 and around Oerlikon the cats are indoor-only, so the visit is their whole day of contact: food, fresh water, the tray, some play, and a look at whether anything has changed. In Witikon, Hoengg and Fluntern more homes back onto woodland and keep cats that let themselves out, and there the owner mainly wants the feed done and confirmation that the cat turned up.

Cat visits across the Zurich districts

Zurich is a city of flats, and that decides what cat work looks like here. Most bookings are indoor cats in Kreis 4 and Kreis 5 around Aussersihl, in Wiedikon and Enge, and in the blocks behind Oerlikon station, where the animal has no garden and needs someone through the door. Distances are short, but the lake and the Sihl cut the city into sides, so sitters usually pick one side and work it properly rather than crossing town between visits. Trams run late enough that an evening visit after your own working day is realistic. Witikon, Hoengg and Fluntern sit against woodland and hold more cats that come and go, which makes for quicker rounds and a different kind of instruction.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Zurich

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Zurich.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Zurich?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Zurich run CHF 25 to CHF 45 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Zurich owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Zurich?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Seefeld and Enge into one efficient round.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to CHF 20,000 for eligible vet costs for the cat in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether you sit in Seefeld or Enge.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Zurich?
Petme cat bookings in Zurich come from neighborhoods like Seefeld, Enge, Wipkingen, with drop-in visits and overnight cat boarding the most requested. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
When is cat sitting demand highest in Zurich?
When owners travel: the summer holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the ski and February sports weeks. On a Zurich winter visit that means checking the heating is still on, keeping the feeding and litter routine exactly as the owner left it, and flagging anything unusual the same day. Swiss school holidays are set canton by canton, so the busy weeks shift with where you work.
Is cat sitting a realistic side job in Zurich?
Cat visits fit around a full-time job better than dog work does, because each one is short and sits at the start or the end of the day. A drop-in runs about half an hour, so two or three flats in the same Kreis fit into one trip. You set the rate for each service yourself and keep up to 90% of every booking.
What language do Zurich cat owners write in?
German is the default, and many of the international households behind the banking, pharma and tech employers write in English instead. Owners read the languages on your profile before they message anyone, so naming them saves a round of questions. A sitter who lists both is reachable by both groups.
Do I work for Petme as a cat sitter in Zurich?
No. Sitting on Petme is self-employed work you arrange directly with the owner, which is why the hours, the services and the rates are yours to set. If you live in Switzerland as a foreign resident or a student, check with your cantonal authority what independent side income your situation allows before you start.
