A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Greenwich

Greenwich has a wet maritime climate with rain spread across the year, frosty spells in winter, and short winter days that leave a narrow window of daylight. Walkers who carry a raincoat and a towel, plan sheltered routes on the wettest days, and hold their slots through the drizzle keep the regulars that fair-weather walkers lose.

When owners travel

Demand peaks over the summer holidays and across Christmas and New Year, with a second wave on the February, May and October half-terms and the bank-holiday weekends. Boarding and house sitting lead when owners travel; walking, daycare and drop-in visits carry the commuting week.

Know your Greenwich areas

Most bookings cluster Woolwich to Plumstead. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.

Breeds you will meet in Greenwich

Owners here mostly keep Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.

Common questions

Dog Boarding Jobs in Greenwich

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Greenwich.

How much can I earn boarding dogs at home in Greenwich?
Home dog boarding on Petme in Greenwich runs £38 to £58 per night. You set your own nightly rate and headcount, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
How is home boarding different from a boarding kennel?
The dog stays in your home as part of the household, not in a run alongside other dogs. Owners in Greenwich book home boarding for the one-to-one routine: normal walks, a sofa, and photo updates. That is why a calm home in Woolwich or Eltham can charge a solid nightly rate.
Do I need a garden to board dogs in Greenwich?
You need private outdoor space. In England, licensed home boarding needs direct access to a private, non-communal outdoor area, and a balcony does not count, so a flat with only a shared garden will not qualify. Check with your licensing authority before you take bookings, then set the dog sizes and headcount your home suits.
Can I choose which dogs I host in Greenwich?
Yes. You review each request, arrange a meet and greet first if you want, and accept or decline. Most hosts start with one dog at a time and only take dogs that get along with their household, whether the owner is in Woolwich or Eltham.
What protection do I get on home boarding bookings?
The Petme Protection Plan offers up to £20,000 for eligible vet costs for the dog in your care, subject to its terms. The same terms apply whether your guests come from Woolwich or Eltham.
When does home dog boarding peak in Greenwich?
Christmas, New Year and the summer holidays, in that order of pressure, with the February, May and October half-terms behind them. Greenwich owners book boarding weeks ahead of those windows, so opening your calendar early for peak dates is the single biggest thing a new host can do to fill it.
Do I need a licence to board dogs at home in Greenwich?
Yes when boarding is regular. Royal Borough of Greenwich issues the licence under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018. The guidance expects direct access from the home to a private outdoor area. A shared garden does not stand in for that.
Is a dog boarding job in Greenwich a kennel shift?
No. Kennel work is a job at a kennel premises. Home boarding in Greenwich is hosting the dog overnight at your own address, on a nightly rate you set, and you keep up to 90%.
