October 13, 20267 min read
TL;DR: A dog sitter in Fort Worth costs $35 to $65 a night for boarding at the sitter's home and $14 to $24 for an hour-long walk. That is a step below the Dallas side of the metroplex, where boarding runs $40 to $75. Four nights away during the Stock Show comes to $140 to $260 in boarding, or $200 at a mid-range $50 a night. Platform data as of October 2026.

Service by service

Boarding is the default for a trip. At $35 to $65 a night, Fort Worth sits in the lower-middle of the US range, and it is where most owners save compared with Dallas, as the Dallas dog sitter cost guide shows. A large dog is often better off with a sitter on the cheaper side of town who has a yard.

Walks are the cheapest way to break up a workday. An hour-long walk at $14 to $24 can cost less than a drop-in at the national $15 to $25, so for an active dog a walk is often the better value.

Drop-ins suit calm dogs, cats and short absences. Two a day come to $30 to $50.

House sitting is the premium option at $50 to $100 a night. It keeps an older, anxious or medicated dog at home and avoids moving the dog in bad weather.

Four nights during the Stock Show, priced out

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is the city's big winter event. In 2026 it ran for 23 days, from January 16 to February 7, at Dickies Arena, the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum and other venues, according to CBS Texas. Owners who work it, show at it or host visitors need care for long days, and the sitters who board book up early. Here are four nights of boarding in that window. The middle row uses $50 a night, the Fort Worth median in Petme's own rate example.

$65$260$28.60 - $39.00$288.60 - $299.00$260

With a house sitter on the national band, the same four nights cost $200 to $400, and a typical platform's fee would add $22 to $60. On Petme the owner booking fee is 0%, so the sitter's total is the bill, and Petme credits cashback after a completed booking.

What else moves a Fort Worth booking

Fort Worth does not allow an unattended dog to be tied up. The city bans using chains, ropes, tethers, leashes, cables or other devices to attach an unattended dog to a stationary object, as its animal control laws page says. If your dog used to spend the day in the yard on a line, that is no longer an option, and a walker or a drop-in is the legal way to cover the gap. The same page notes that dogs must be licensed by four months of age, after their rabies vaccination, so leave the paperwork with your sitter.

Winter is not always mild. Ice and freezing rain can close roads around the Stock Show, so agree with your sitter what happens if your return is delayed, and keep a spare night in the budget.

Summer brings the opposite problem. In the hottest weeks a midday walk on pavement is the wrong walk. Ask for early and late outings instead, and read the guide to dehydration and heat stroke in dogs before a July trip.

The usual travel peaks apply. Thanksgiving and the stretch from Christmas to New Year are heavy for travel out of DFW, and fall football Saturdays near TCU add weekend demand. Sitters book out early in those windows. The holiday pet sitting guide covers how far ahead to plan.

Boarding or a sitter at home

For a short trip with a social dog, boarding at $35 to $65 is the better value. For a nervous or senior dog, or a home with several pets, a house sitter is worth the higher rate. Browse dog boarding in Fort Worth, and the in-home care versus boarding guide goes through the trade-offs.
