Where the extra charge comes from
On a typical booking platform, you choose a sitter, see their nightly or per-walk rate, and then at checkout a service fee is added on top. It is usually a percentage of the booking, so the more you book, the more you pay in fees over a year.
That fee is separate from what the sitter earns. It does not buy you a better sitter or more protection. It is simply the platform’s cut, charged to you, the owner, on top of the rate you already agreed to.
