Dog care tips for Calgary
Keep your dog safe through Calgary's harsh winters and chinook swings.
Extreme cold prep
Calgary winters can drop to minus 30. Short-coated dogs need jackets, and all dogs need paw protection from ice and salt.
Chinook awareness
Chinook winds can swing temperatures by 20 degrees in hours. Watch for signs of discomfort during rapid weather changes.
Off-leash rules
Calgary has over 150 off-leash parks. Dogs must be under voice control and owners must clean up immediately.
Wildlife encounters
Coyotes and deer are common in Calgary parks. Keep your dog close and avoid dawn and dusk walks near river valleys.
