Dog care tips for Ottawa
Keep your dog comfortable through Ottawa's extreme seasons.
Winter is serious
Ottawa is one of the coldest capitals in the world. Dogs need booties and jackets when temperatures drop below minus 20.
Summer ticks
Ottawa is in tick country. Check your dog thoroughly after every walk in tall grass or wooded areas.
River safety
The Ottawa and Rideau rivers have strong currents. Supervise dogs closely near the water, especially during spring runoff.
NCC pathways
NCC multi-use pathways require dogs on leash. Off-leash activity is only permitted in designated areas.
