Frequently asked
Questions from Swatar owners
Is Swatar good for senior dog walks?
Yes. The streets are flat, traffic is light, and the proximity to the San Ġwann parks gives easy access to a slower, less demanding walk for senior dogs.
Are sitters experienced with senior pets?
Yes. Swatar's longer-tenured residents include many sitters who handle senior cats, mobility-impaired dogs, and pets on long-term medication.
Is the area cheaper than Sliema?
Yes. Swatar drop-in rates typically run €7-12 versus the €8-14 in inner-harbour areas for the same visit.
How do sitters handle the summer heat in Swatar?
By moving the day around it. Walks go early in the morning and again after sunset, pavements get checked with a hand before a dog is taken out on them, and the middle of the day is for shade, water and quiet indoors. Agree the timings with your Birkirkara sitter when you book, and say so if your dog is a flat-faced breed or an older one that struggles in the heat.
What do I need to have in order before booking in Swatar?
Your dog should be microchipped and on the national register, which is required in Malta under the Electronic Identification of Dogs Regulations. Beyond that, give your Swatar sitter the vet you use, the feeding routine, and a note of how your dog behaves with other dogs on a narrow street, which comes up more in Birkirkara than in most places.
What does Petme cover in Swatar?

Is there a booking fee?
