Local know-how pays off in Davenport
Cold snaps set the winter visit. Normal lows at Quad City Intl AP run 14.8 degrees in January and 20.8 in December, so the furnace and the pipes get a look on a Hamburg or Cork Hill house. May and June are the wet months, at 5.19 and 5.20 inches on the gauge near city hall, and the city puts up temporary flood walls downtown when the Mississippi rises.
When demand peaks
Davenport Community School District breaks move the travel. Thanksgiving covers November 25 to 27, 2026, and winter break runs December 23 to January 1. Spring break falls March 15 to 19, with a second on April 19, 2027. Twice-a-day visits stack across those weeks. St. Ambrose University empties on December 18 and refills January 11.
Know your Davenport areas
Columbia Avenue is a block of four to six unit apartment buildings north of Vander Veer Botanical Park, and the west end of Downtown Davenport turned over to apartments long ago. Cats there live indoors and you carry a key. Prospect Park sits above River Drive on large single-family lots, and those owners travel.
Cat homes in Davenport
Davenport counts 46,849 housing units and 29,838 of them are single detached houses. Only 1,978 sit in buildings of 50 units or more. Of 43,237 occupied homes, 16,052 are rented, and the average household runs 2.26 people. A cat here usually has a whole house to itself.
What a cat sitting job in Davenport actually involves
Cat sitting is a drop-in service, so the cat never leaves home. You let yourself in with a key or a code the owner sets up, spend 20 to 30 minutes on food, water, the litter box and some company, check the place over, and send a photo before you lock up. Owners in Davenport book it because a cat that stays home stays calm. One traveler booking twice a day for ten days is twenty visits from a single client.
Keys and access
Most Davenport owners hand over a spare key, a lockbox code or a smart-lock code at the meet-and-greet. Agree where the key lives and how you get in if the code fails, and confirm it before the owner leaves town.
The visit
Fresh food and water, the litter box scooped, a look at the cat and a few minutes of play or a brush. You note anything off, like a skipped meal or a hidden cat, so the owner hears it from you first.
The update
A photo and two lines in the app after every visit. Owners who cannot see their cat for a week live on those messages, and a sitter who sends them without being asked is the one they rebook.

Davenport areas that book the most
Cat sitting requests in Davenport come from Columbia Avenue and Downtown Davenport apartments and from Prospect Park households away over school breaks.
Iowa licenses no pet sitter or dog walker. Davenport requires every dog and cat to hold a license from the Humane Society of Scott County, renewed each year with the rabies vaccination. Code 6.04.060 sets a leash limit of six feet off the owner's property and 6.04.080 makes you remove the waste. Code 6.04.090 caps one address at four dogs, cats, ferrets and potbellied pigs, no more than three of one species. Pet-care income goes on Schedule C.

What Davenport owners look for in a cat sitter
Cat owners book on trust more than on price. The profile details below are the ones they ask about.
Comfort with shy cats
Many cats hide from a stranger for the first visit. Owners want to hear that you will sit with the cat, not chase it, and that a hidden cat still gets fed and its box scooped.
Reliability, twice a day
A cat on medication or a diabetic cat needs visits at the same time every day. Say what your schedule can hold in Davenport, and mention any medication experience, even with your own cat.
A tidy visit
Litter cleaned properly, nothing left out, doors and windows as you found them, and a message with a photo. Owners come home and look for those signs before they look at anything else.
