A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Fort Myers

Fort Myers has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers, near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, and a June-to-November hurricane season. Sitters walk dogs early and late in summer to keep paws off scorching sidewalks, watch the radar for storm cells, and shift to easy midday outings in the dry, mild winter.

When demand peaks

Demand climbs from December through April when snowbirds and seasonal residents fill the city and spring-training crowds arrive for the Red Sox at JetBlue Park and the Twins at Hammond Stadium. Boarding and house sitting lead during summer travel, while dog walking and drop-in visits stay steady off the Florida Gulf Coast University calendar and among year-round commuters.

Know your Fort Myers areas

Most cat bookings cluster Downtown River District to Whiskey Creek. Owners book the sitter who can reach them quickly for a daily visit, so the areas you list matter more than the distance you are willing to travel.

Florida does not license pet sitters or dog walkers. Operating in Fort Myers calls for a City of Fort Myers Business Tax Receipt plus a Lee County Business Tax Receipt from the tax collector. Lee County requires dogs off the owner's property to be restrained by a leash, cord, or chain, and there is no city cap on the number of dogs walked at once.
