Local know-how pays off in Murrieta
Summer indoor checks matter most here. NOAA normals put August at a 97.8F high and July at 96.5F, so the air conditioning runs hard and a closed house heats up fast when it fails. Santa Ana winds bring fire weather watches to Murrieta in October and November, and cats stay shut inside on those days. December lows sit near 40F.
When demand peaks
Travel windows follow the school calendar. Murrieta Valley Unified restarts August 10 and closes for winter break from December 21 until January 8, which is when twice-daily visits stack up across Alta Murrieta and Bear Creek. Thanksgiving week brings the next block of multi-night bookings.
Know your Murrieta areas
Bear Creek and The Colony are gated golf communities, so a visit starts with a gate code as well as a key. Murrieta Hot Springs mixes condos with smaller homes on the east side. Vintage Reserve sits on the edge of downtown and books short two-visit trips.
Cat homes in Murrieta
Murrieta is a bedroom community of single-family tracts, roughly seven in ten homes owner-occupied, with households averaging 3.2 people. Cat clients sit in areas like California Oaks and Alta Murrieta rather than apartment blocks, so a visit means a key handover and litter boxes to scoop.
What a cat sitting job in Murrieta actually involves
Cat sitting is a drop-in service, so the cat never leaves home. You let yourself in with a key or a code the owner sets up, spend 20 to 30 minutes on food, water, the litter box and some company, check the place over, and send a photo before you lock up. Owners in Murrieta book it because a cat that stays home stays calm. One traveler booking twice a day for ten days is twenty visits from a single client.
Keys and access
Most Murrieta owners hand over a spare key, a lockbox code or a smart-lock code at the meet-and-greet. Agree where the key lives and how you get in if the code fails, and confirm it before the owner leaves town.
The visit
Fresh food and water, the litter box scooped, a look at the cat and a few minutes of play or a brush. You note anything off, like a skipped meal or a hidden cat, so the owner hears it from you first.
The update
A photo and two lines in the app after every visit. Owners who cannot see their cat for a week live on those messages, and a sitter who sends them without being asked is the one they rebook.

California does not license pet sitters. Murrieta runs animal control through Animal Friends of the Valleys, and every dog four months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies and licensed. Municipal Code 12.08.100 allows dogs in city parks only on a leash and under full control. Pet sitting from your own home needs a city home occupation permit, and code section 16.60.050 keeps animal sitting entirely indoors. Sitting income is self-employment income reported on Schedule C.

What Murrieta owners look for in a cat sitter
Cat owners book on trust more than on price. The profile details below are the ones they ask about.
Comfort with shy cats
Many cats hide from a stranger for the first visit. Owners want to hear that you will sit with the cat, not chase it, and that a hidden cat still gets fed and its box scooped.
Reliability, twice a day
A cat on medication or a diabetic cat needs visits at the same time every day. Say what your schedule can hold in Murrieta, and mention any medication experience, even with your own cat.
A tidy visit
Litter cleaned properly, nothing left out, doors and windows as you found them, and a message with a photo. Owners come home and look for those signs before they look at anything else.
