Local know-how pays off in New Rochelle
Cat visits change with the Sound's weather. September is the wettest month at 4.94 inches, the tail of the storm season, when an outage can knock out heat pumps and building elevators. July highs of 83 mean checking the AC in shut apartments. In January, lows of 22 put the thermostat and window seals on the visit list.
When demand peaks
School breaks set the travel calendar. New Rochelle schools close for holiday recess from December 24 to 31, 2026, and for spring recess from March 22 to 26, 2027. Those weeks stack twice-a-day cat visits. Summer trips start after the last day of school on June 25, 2027.
Know your New Rochelle areas
Cat sitting splits by building type. Downtown New Rochelle holds the apartment work, where keys go through a front desk and visits need building access sorted before a trip. Detached-house calls come from Rochelle Heights and Residence Park, where the handover is a door key or a lockbox.
Cat homes in New Rochelle
Cat sitting in New Rochelle splits between towers and houses. Renters hold 14,660 of the city's 31,684 occupied homes, and 8,579 of 32,792 units sit in buildings of 50 or more apartments. Another 12,506 are detached houses, so half the visits start at a doorman and half at a front door key.
Bilingual owners book faster
Expect to text some New Rochelle owners in Spanish. Of 79,201 residents aged five and over, 19,379 speak Spanish at home and 7,675 of them report limited English. Feeding notes and building access instructions arrive in Spanish often enough that a bilingual sitter covers more homes.
What a cat sitting job in New Rochelle actually involves
About a quarter of New Rochelle homes, 8,579 of 32,792, sit in buildings of 50 or more units. Those visits need your name left with the front desk or a building fob before the owner leaves. House visits in the North End run on a door key, so collect a spare at the meet and greet.
Keys and access
Most New Rochelle owners hand over a spare key, a lockbox code or a smart-lock code at the meet-and-greet. Agree where the key lives and how you get in if the code fails, and confirm it before the owner leaves town.
The visit
Fresh food and water, the litter box scooped, a look at the cat and a few minutes of play or a brush. You note anything off, like a skipped meal or a hidden cat, so the owner hears it from you first.
The update
A photo and two lines in the app after every visit. Owners who cannot see their cat for a week live on those messages, and a sitter who sends them without being asked is the one they rebook.

What New Rochelle owners look for in a cat sitter
Cat owners book on trust more than on price. The profile details below are the ones they ask about.
Comfort with shy cats
Many cats hide from a stranger for the first visit. Owners want to hear that you will sit with the cat, not chase it, and that a hidden cat still gets fed and its box scooped.
Reliability, twice a day
A cat on medication or a diabetic cat needs visits at the same time every day. Say what your schedule can hold in New Rochelle, and mention any medication experience, even with your own cat.
A tidy visit
Litter cleaned properly, nothing left out, doors and windows as you found them, and a message with a photo. Owners come home and look for those signs before they look at anything else.
