A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Amarillo

Amarillo sits above 3,600 feet on the High Plains, where summer highs run in the low 90s and winter lows drop into the low 20s with snow. Most of the roughly 20 inches of annual rain falls as spring and summer thunderstorms. Steady wind and a wide day-to-night temperature swing push walks to early morning and after sunset in July and August.

When demand peaks

Demand climbs around the winter holidays and spring break when families leave town, and again over summer road-trip season. West Texas A&M in nearby Canyon and Amarillo College follow an academic calendar that adds turnover in August and January, when students and staff need drop-ins and daycare.

Know your Amarillo areas

Most bookings cluster Wolflin to The Colonies. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.

Breeds you will meet in Amarillo

Owners here mostly keep Labrador Retriever, Australian Cattle Dog, German Shepherd, Chihuahua. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.

Bilingual owners book faster

About a third of Amarillo residents are Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking owners are common across the San Jacinto and Barrio neighborhoods, so bilingual sitters have an edge.

Texas does not license pet sitters or dog walkers at the state level. Amarillo does not require a general business license for most small service providers, though the city advises checking with the City Secretary about your specific activity. City ordinance Chapter 8-2 requires dogs in public to be leashed and under control, and prohibits a tether that lets a dog reach within 3 feet of a public sidewalk. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
