A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot, sticky summers and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, plus a hurricane season that runs into fall. Walkers head out early in the morning or after the evening storms pass in July and August, carry water, and watch for heat stress in flat-faced dogs on the muggiest days.

When demand peaks

Demand climbs around the LSU and Southern University calendars, home football weekends, and the winter holidays, with a second lift during hurricane-season evacuations when owners need last-minute care. Boarding and house sitting lead during travel windows while walking and drop-in visits carry the workweek for state government and healthcare commuters.

Know your Baton Rouge areas

Most bookings cluster Downtown to University Hills. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.

Breeds you will meet in Baton Rouge

Owners here mostly keep Labrador Retriever, Catahoula Leopard Dog, German Shepherd, French Bulldog. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.

Louisiana does not license pet sitters or dog walkers. Operating in Baton Rouge means registering for the East Baton Rouge Parish occupational license and paying that annual tax on gross receipts; dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet in public under Title 14 of the city-parish code, and there is no set cap on the number of dogs one person can walk. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
