Local know-how pays off in Fort Wayne
Fort Wayne has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm, humid summers. January highs sit near 32°F with lows around 18°F, and the city averages about 33 inches of snow a year, so winter walks mean salted sidewalks and paw checks. July highs reach the mid-80s, which pushes midday walks earlier and later to keep dogs off hot pavement.
When demand peaks
Demand climbs over the summer travel months and again around the winter holidays, when owners leave town and need boarding or daily drop-ins. The academic calendars at Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana Tech, and the University of Saint Francis add renters and short-term moves in August and May. Summer TinCaps games and downtown events also fill owners' evenings and raise walking bookings.
Know your Fort Wayne areas
Most bookings cluster West Central to Aboite. Owners look for sitters who know the area and can reach them without a long trip.
Breeds you will meet in Fort Wayne

Indiana does not license pet sitters or dog walkers at the state level, and there is no state general business license. Fort Wayne does not issue a general business license either; the city only requires permits for specific activities such as kennels, and day hosting or boarding dogs at home may count as one, so check with the city before offering it; so a solo walker registers a business name (a Certificate of Assumed Business Name filed with Allen County, about $25) if operating under a name other than their own. Fort Wayne City Code 91.020 requires dogs off the owner's property to be restrained on a leash and under the physical control of the owner or an attending party. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
