A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Huntsville

Huntsville has a humid subtropical climate with hot, sticky summers in the low 90s and mild winters, plus heavy spring rain and Tennessee Valley thunderstorm and tornado risk. Walkers head out early morning or after sundown in July and August to keep dogs off hot pavement, and keep an eye on severe-weather alerts to reschedule outings when storms roll through.

When demand peaks

Demand climbs over summer travel and the winter holidays, and stays steady the rest of the year thanks to the defense and aerospace workforce at Redstone Arsenal, NASA Marshall, and the 300-plus companies in Cummings Research Park. Boarding and house sitting lead during vacation stretches, while dog walking and drop-in visits carry the workweek for long-shift engineers and contractors.

Know your Huntsville areas
