Local know-how pays off in Killeen
Killeen runs a humid subtropical climate with well over a hundred days a year above 90 degrees and about 34.75 inches of rain. July and August afternoons are the constraint, so walkers work early mornings and evenings and keep midday to short shaded loops. Winters are mild enough that walking continues year round, with occasional hard freezes.
When demand peaks
Fort Cavazos sets the calendar. Deployments, field rotations and permanent-change-of-station cycles move families in and out constantly, which produces steady demand for long-stay boarding and house sitting rather than a single holiday spike. PCS season in early summer is the heaviest stretch. Central Texas College and Texas A&M Central Texas terms add student-driven turnover on top.
Know your Killeen pickup areas
Most daycare bookings cluster Downtown Killeen to Yowell Ranch. Owners drop off on the way to work and collect afterwards, so an easy run to your door matters more than how far you are willing to travel.
Breeds you will meet in Killeen
Owners here mostly keep German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Belgian Malinois, French Bulldog. Knowing how those breeds behave, and saying so on your profile, is what turns a first booking into a repeat client.

Killeen rules out animal care as a home business in 31-186, and that covers day care, not only overnight stays. The work that pays in Killeen is at the owner's end: walks, midday drop-ins, and overnight house sitting. Texas does not license pet sitters or dog walkers at state level. The City of Killeen requires dogs to be leashed any time they are outside a fenced yard, and the city dog parks require current vaccinations and limit each handler to two dogs. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
