A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Macon

Macon has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, sticky summers that top 90 degrees on more than 80 days a year and short, mild winters. Sitters walk dogs early morning or after sunset in July and August to keep paws off hot pavement, and use the shaded riverside stretch of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail when the humidity spikes.

When demand peaks

Demand rises when families travel over the summer and winter holidays, and around the spring International Cherry Blossom Festival that fills downtown. Boarding and house sitting lead during vacation weeks, while dog walking and drop-in visits stay steady for Mercer University staff, medical-center shift workers, and commuters tied to the Robins Air Force Base jobs south of town.

Know your Macon areas

Most cat bookings cluster Downtown Macon to North Macon. Owners book the sitter who can reach them quickly for a daily visit, so the areas you list matter more than the distance you are willing to travel.

Georgia does not license pet sitters or dog walkers. Anyone running a pet-care business in Macon-Bibb County needs an Occupation Tax Certificate (the local business license), and dogs must be leashed or otherwise restrained off the owner's property under the county animal ordinance; there is no city cap on the number of dogs walked at once. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
