Local know-how pays off in Surprise

Surprise sits in the northwest Valley of the Sun, where summer afternoons routinely pass 105 degrees and asphalt stays dangerous long after sunset. Walkers here run a summer schedule from roughly May to September: dawn outings, shaded routes, paw checks, and a hard stop by mid-morning. From November through March the weather flips and midday walks become the easiest part of the day.

When demand peaks

The winter season is the busy one. Sun City Grand and the other 55-plus communities fill with seasonal residents from autumn to spring, and Surprise Stadium hosts Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers spring training in February and March, which pulls visitors and short-stay bookings into the city. Summer runs the opposite way, with residents travelling to escape the heat and leaving pets behind for boarding.

Know your Surprise areas

Most cat bookings cluster Marley Park to Sun City Grand. Owners book the sitter who can reach them quickly for a daily visit, so the areas you list matter more than the distance you are willing to travel.

Arizona does not license pet sitters or dog walkers at state level. Maricopa County requires dogs to be licensed and rabies vaccinated, and dogs must be leashed anywhere off the owner's property except inside a designated off-leash area such as the dog parks at Surprise Community Park. Pet-care earnings are self-employment income, reported on Schedule C against the platform's 1099.
