Condo pet sitting in Vancouver

Yaletown, Coal Harbour, downtown towers. Building access, strata rules, and how Petme works with high-rise condos.

Vancouver has one of Canada’s highest concentrations of high-rise condo living, and most downtown pet owners are in towers. Strata rules, concierge handoffs, and weight limits all become part of booking a sitter. This is the practical condo playbook Petme sitters use across Vancouver.

Building access

How sitters get into your condo

Concierge handoff

Standard in Yaletown, Coal Harbour, and downtown Vancouver towers with full-time concierge. Leave a key or share a smart-lock code; the concierge hands over and tracks visits.

Fob and key handover

Mid-rise buildings without concierge often use fob + key. A meet and greet at the building lets the sitter learn the entry routine.

Smart lock

Increasingly common in newer Vancouver builds. Time-limited codes per sitter eliminate physical handover.

Strata rules

What to confirm before you book

BC strata rules vary widely by building. Common restrictions: maximum two pets per unit, weight limit (often 25 lbs or 35 lbs), breed restrictions are rare but do exist in some strata bylaws, and rules around carrying small dogs through common areas.

A few Vancouver strata require pet registration with the building, including a deposit and the unit’s pet listed on file. A new sitter visiting frequently may need to be added to the visitor list with your strata manager.

Common Vancouver towers

Neighbourhoods where Petme sitters most often work

Yaletown, Coal Harbour, Olympic Village, downtown, West End, and Brentwood (Burnaby) all have heavy Petme coverage. Sitters in these neighbourhoods know which buildings have stricter strata rules and which allow easier visitor access.

Many downtown towers have no on-site pet relief area, which makes mid-day drop-in visits valuable for dogs left during work hours. Walking routes along the seawall, English Bay, and David Lam Park are the local standard.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do BC strata have to allow professional pet sitters?
Strata can restrict commercial activity in the building. Petme sitters are independent contractors visiting as guests, not a commercial service. Most strata don’t object, but it’s worth checking the bylaws if your building has been strict before.
What if my dog exceeds the strata weight limit?
That’s a strata bylaw matter, not a Petme matter. Confirm your dog is on the strata pet registry before booking long-term sitting; some sitters have been turned away by concierge for unregistered animals.
How does Petme’s 0% owner fee work for condo dwellers?
Petme charges pet owners 0% on every booking, in condos or houses. Cashback is automatic, and CAD 20,000 vet protection is included on every booking.
