Common questions

Dog Sitting Jobs in Germany

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Germany.

How much do dog sitting jobs pay in Germany?
Overnight dog sitting on Petme in Germany runs €22 to €60 per night, with Munich and Berlin at the top of the range. The dog stays at your home, you set your own nightly rate, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What is the difference between dog sitting and doggy daycare?
Dog sitting is an overnight stay: the dog sleeps at your home for one or more nights while the owner is away. Doggy daycare is daytime only, with drop-off in the morning and pick-up after work. Many sitters offer both and fill the working week with daycare and the holidays with overnight stays.
Which German cities have dog sitting jobs?
Petme covers 20 large German cities, from Berlin, Munich and Hamburg to Essen, Bremen, Bochum, Wuppertal, Bielefeld, Bonn and Münster. Each city page lists the local nightly rate band and the neighborhoods that book the most.
Do I need a permit to board dogs at my home?
Anyone who boards dogs for regular pay usually registers a small trade (Gewerbe). Whether you also need a permit under Section 11 of the Animal Welfare Act depends on scale, so check with your local veterinary office. Petme's overview of German dog law covers the basics.
When is dog sitting demand strongest in Germany?
Around the weeks owners travel: the Sommerferien and the run from Weihnachten to Neujahr, then the Osterferien and Herbstferien. Because the summer holidays are staggered by Bundesland, the busy stretch follows the state you work in. Those dates go first, so open them early.
How does the Protection Plan work for dog sitting?
For overnight dog sitting, the Petme Protection Plan can contribute up to €20,000 toward eligible vet costs for the dog in your care.
