A local edge

Local know-how pays off in Auckland

Auckland has a mild maritime climate with the seasons flipped: summer runs December to February, winter June to August. Walkers who use the long, bright summer evenings, keep a raincoat for the wet, windy winters, and hold a steady schedule year-round earn the repeat bookings.

When demand peaks

Demand peaks over the summer holidays from December into January, when families travel, and again over the winter school breaks. Boarding and house sitting lead during the summer break; walking and drop-in visits carry the working week.

Know your Auckland areas

Most cat bookings cluster Ponsonby to Takapuna. Owners book the sitter who can reach them quickly for a daily visit, so the areas you list matter more than the distance you are willing to travel.

Common questions

Cat Sitting Jobs in Auckland

What new sitters ask before signing up on Petme in Auckland.

How much do cat sitters earn per visit in Auckland?
Drop-in cat visits on Petme in Auckland run NZ$28 to NZ$45 per 20 to 30 minute visit. You set your own rate per visit, and you keep up to 90% of every booking.
What protection do I get on cat sitting bookings?
Every confirmed Petme booking, including drop-in visits, includes NZ$39,000 in Protection Plan for the cat in your care, at no cost to you or the owner. The same cover applies whether you sit in Ponsonby or Mission Bay.
Where is cat sitting demand strongest in Auckland?
Cat visits cluster on the central isthmus and the eastern bays: Remuera, Ponsonby and Mission Bay owners book twice-daily feeding while they are away over summer. Most cat owners book a sitter within their own neighborhood, so listing the areas you cover sharpens your visibility.
What does a typical cat sitting visit involve?
A standard drop-in runs 20 to 30 minutes: feeding, fresh water, litter scooping, playtime, and a photo update to the owner in chat. Many Auckland owners book one or two visits a day while they travel.
Can I set my own visit schedule in Auckland?
Yes. You set your available hours and accept or decline each request. Morning and evening visit slots fill first, and you can stack several nearby visits around Ponsonby and Mission Bay into one efficient round.
Which weeks fill up first for cat sitting in Auckland?
Mid-December to late January, when Term 4 ends and families head away for the summer break. That is when Auckland owners book one or two visits a day for a fortnight or more, because the cat stays home rather than travelling with them. The April and late-September school holidays bring smaller second waves. Keep those weeks open and they are the first to fill.
