Caring for your dog in Southampton
Southampton-specific tips every dog owner should know
New Forest livestock
The New Forest has free-roaming ponies, cattle, and donkeys. Dogs must be on leads at all times to protect the animals and avoid fines.
Coastal heat awareness
Southampton enjoys warm summers. Stick to shaded woodland walks on hot days and carry water for your dog on longer routes.
Tidal waterfront safety
Southampton Water has strong tides. Keep your dog on a lead near the waterfront and avoid mudflats that can be deceptively deep.
Common community
Southampton Common is the city's social hub for dog owners. Regular walks here help your dog socialise with other local dogs.
