Caring for your dog in London
London-specific tips every dog owner should know
Pavement heat awareness
London pavements absorb heat quickly in summer. If you cannot hold your palm on the surface for five seconds, it is too hot for paws. Walk early morning or after sunset.
Flat living exercise
Most London dogs live in flats. Supplement walks with indoor play, puzzle toys, and regular trips to off-lead parks to keep energy levels balanced.
Thames safety
The Thames has strong currents and tidal changes. Keep your dog on a lead near river edges and avoid letting them drink from the water.
Socialisation in busy areas
London is noisy and crowded. Gradual exposure to busy streets, the Tube, and crowded parks helps your dog build confidence in urban settings.

Common questions about dog sitting in London
Everything you need to know before booking a dog sitter
How much does dog boarding cost in London?
Dog boarding rates in London typically range from £25 to £55 per night depending on the borough and sitter experience. Petme sitters set their own rates, and you can filter by price when browsing. The Protection Plan offers up to £20,000 for eligible vet costs.
How do I find a reliable dog walker near me in London?
On Petme, you can search for dog walkers by borough across Greater London. Every walker has a public profile with photos, reviews from other dog owners, and their experience with different breeds. You can message them directly and arrange a meet-and-greet before your first walk.
Are dog sitters on Petme ID-verified?
Yes. Petme sitters complete identity verification before taking bookings. For eligible vet costs, the Petme Protection Plan offers up to £20,000, subject to the Protection Plan terms.
Can I book a dog sitter for just a few hours in London?
Absolutely. Petme offers in-home dog visits and doggy day care options that work for shorter time frames. Whether you need someone for a couple of hours during a meeting or a full working day, you can find sitters who accommodate flexible schedules.
How do I know if a dog sitter in London is trustworthy?
Every dog sitter on Petme completes identity verification before their profile goes live. Most sitters also have reviews written by dog owners in London who have used their services. You can browse each sitter's full profile, view their photos with dogs, check their listed breed experience, and read every review before getting in touch. You are never obligated to book - messaging a sitter is always free.
Does the Petme Protection Plan apply to dog sitting bookings in London?
Yes, for eligible vet costs. For bookings made through Petme, whether overnight boarding, a dog walk, or a drop-in visit, the Petme Protection Plan may contribute up to £20,000 if your dog is injured or becomes ill during a stay or walk, subject to the Protection Plan terms. No separate purchase is required. Eligibility rules apply, so read the terms before you book.
Can I meet a dog sitter in London before committing to a booking?
Yes. You can message a sitter in chat and arrange a meet-and-greet before you book. You and your dog get to meet the sitter in person before you confirm anything, and you only go ahead when you are both comfortable. Meeting a sitter first is the best way to check the match.
Dog sitting in London
London is home to an estimated 1.1 million dogs, making it one of the most dog-dense capitals in the world. From compact flats in Zone 1 to houses with gardens in the outer boroughs, dogs are part of the fabric of this city.
Petme connects London dog owners with local sitters who open their homes for overnight stays, daily walks, and drop-in visits. Every sitter builds a profile with real photos, breed experience, and reviews from other dog owners. You can browse sitters across Westminster, Camden, Hackney, Greenwich, and every other borough without any booking fees.
Whether your dog needs a morning walk along the Regent's Canal, an afternoon of playtime in a sitter's Islington flat, or a week-long stay whilst you travel, there is a dog lover on Petme ready to help.
